Que es muy caro, que ya lo se todo, que me enseñan mis amigos o que soy muy mayor. Hemos escuchado muchas excusas. Aquí te contamos las más comunes y si esa es tu excusa, te explicamos porque te equivocas.
Contratar un guía de escalada es algo que no entra en los planes de la mayoría de personas
que desean iniciarse en el mundo de la escalada. Tampoco se les pasa por la cabeza a los que
ya llevan un tiempo escalando, a veces incluso años, y creen que lo saben todo, que nadie les
va a enseñar nada nuevo.
En países como Francia o Estados Unidos los colectivos de guías, tanto de montaña como de
escalada, están muy bien considerados, y no les faltan clientes. Existe una cultura arraigada en
la que se confía en el guía para iniciarse en cualquier disciplina en la montaña o incluso para
realizar senderismo o un trekking de varios días.
Las excusas que habrás oído en más de una ocasión o que incluso tú mismo pones son
comunes entre la mayoría a la hora de decidir no contratar un guía de escalada.
Exponemos las cinco excusas más frecuentes y te explicamos por qué te equivocas:
1. Contratar un guía o hacer un curso de escalada es muy caro
¿Es caro? ¿Seguro? Por lo que vale una cena en un restaurante o cualquier capricho que
compres en internet puedes disfrutar de un bautizo en roca o de un curso de iniciación a la
escalada deportiva. Además de aprender y relajarte en la montaña, puedes ampliar tu
círculo de amistades y conocer gente nueva con la que hacer actividades al aire libre.
2. No me hace falta, ya sé todo lo necesario.
Pongamos un solo ejemplo. Llevas años haciendo escalada deportiva y de vez en cuando
haces alguna vía larga. ¿Sabes montar de forma correcta una reunión? ¿Cómo gestionas
las cuerdas? ¿Crees que colocas bien los seguros flotantes? ¿Y si tú o tú compañero de
cordada sufrís un accidente en la pared? ¿Conoces las maniobras básicas de autorescate?
No seguimos, ¿verdad?
3. Me enseña mi pareja o los amigos.
Quizás tu pareja o algún amigo es guía de escalada. Estás de suerte. Seguro que aprendes
todo lo necesario y te conviertes en un escalador ejemplar. Pero… ¿y si no es así? ¿Quién
te ha enseñado, por ejemplo, a realizar la maniobra en un descuelgue en una vía de
deportiva? ¿Seguro que la haces correctamente? Estamos cansados de ver imprudencias
en todas la salidas que realizamos a concurridos sectores de escalada. Maniobras o
técnicas tan básicas como las de asegurar al compañero de cordada con un dispositivo
semiautomático se hacen mal una vez y otra. No pasan más cosas porque…
4. Escalo desde hace muchos años.
El exceso de confianza y una baja percepción objetiva del riesgo son los de los factores más
comunes relacionados con accidentes de escalada. Reciclarse nunca está de más. ¿Conoces
