Los picos de 4.000 metros de la Cordillera del Atlas, en Marruecos, son muy populares entre la comunidad montañera. Con sus 4.167 metros, el Toubkal es el rey, una cima accesible e ideal para introducirse en la ascensión de montañas por encima de los 4.000 metros. Pero… ¿y la escalada? ¿Qué conocemos sobre la escalada en Marruecos?
El lugar más popular, sin duda alguna, son las Gargantas del Todra, pero bien cerca de ahí, durante los últimos años ha tomado mucha fuerza y adquirido mucha popularidad Taghia.
Taghia es un destino perfecto para los escaladores y escaladoras que tengan ganas de vivir una aventura auténtica. Se conoce a esta extensa zona de escalada por el nombre del pueblo de Taghia, una pequeña aldea con menos de 100 habitantes, a casi 2.000 metros de altitud y vigilado por unas paredes de una roca de calidad excelente, que en ocasiones sobrepasan los 800 metros. En definitiva, un paraíso de roca.
Un grupo de escaladores franceses visitó Taghia por primera vez en la década de los 70 del pasado siglo y empezó a abrir las vías más evidentes y lógicas. Estas líneas subían hasta las cimas de montañas como el Taoujdad, Oujdad, N’Tsouïant y Taradrate. En las décadas sucesivas la escalada fue evolucionando en Taghia y en la década de los 90 aparecieron las primeras líneas con equipamiento moderno.
La guía de escalada de referencia es la de Christian Ravier: “Taghia et autres montagnes berebères” (Autoedición, 2019), que cuenta con una edición previa descatalogada y de coleccionista.
Caminando desde el pueblo de Taghia se accede a muchas de las vías más repetidas de la cordillera. Nosotros escogimos “Belle et Berbère” (300m 6b+), “Au Nom de la Réforme” (300m 6c), “Le Reves d’Aicha” (255m 6a+) y “L’Allumere de Reves Berebere” (320m 6b+).
La calidad de las cuatro vías que escalamos fue excelente, sobe una roca inmaculada. Para dos de las vías solo necesitamos un buen juego de cintas exprés, mientras que para las otras dos utilizamos también un juego de Tótems. Bajamos andando de tres de las cuatro vías. En “Au Nom de La Réforme” realizamos un rápel de 35 metros y después seguimos ya caminando hasta el pueblo.
La escalada en Taghia va más allá de la pura actividad física o deportiva. Es una experiencia en todos los sentidos. Desde el lugar donde instalas tu campamento base, donde convives con las gentes de la hospitalaria aldea, pasando por la belleza y aridez del paisaje, hasta el carácter que tienen todas y cada una de las vías, sin importar su dificultad. Un lugar al que volver una y otra vez, donde las posibilidades son infinitas y la aventura siempre está asegurada.
Mejor temporada de escalada: Primavera y Otoño.
Como llegar a Taghia: Volar a Marrakech y luego taxi hasta Zaouit Ahansal (5hs). Desde aquí andando en una hora hasta Taghia o en Taxi 4x4.
Dormir: Hay infinidad de Gites en todo el pueblo de Taghia. Nosotros hemos parado en casa de Mohamed Amil. Muy bien ubicado, cerca de las paredes, y además se ha encargado de organizar todo para nosotros. Desde la recogida en Marrakech hasta nuestro regreso.
Agua: En la fuente, cerca de la pares de Sources (fuentes), hay agua excelente.
Comer: La mayoria de los alojamientos incluyen la media pension o pension completa.
Reseñas de las vías: En Los gites suelen tener todas las reseñas y la guía de escalada de Taghia.
Material: la mayoria de las vías clásicas estan perfectamente equipadas, pero suele ser necesario llevar un juego de totems y aklgunos aliens.

Santi is the best climbing guide you can imagine. As a reference, we two are 6a-7a climbers, but we wanted a local guide to help maximize efficiency in a foreign area. As a climbing guide specifically: he is consummately professional, impressively knowledgable and safe, as well as comfortingly sensitive to your climbing abilities and needs, and tailors each day with climbs that are perfect for you--if you want to be comfortable or if you want a little/big challenge, if you want to experience highlights of an area by switching up crags in the same day. He knows the areas so well and of course knows how to choose the walls that are in the shade or in the sun for whatever time of day or season you are climbing. There is so much variety and fun for either multi or single pitch too. In addition, when we were all climbed out for the day, he took the opportunity to show us the beauty of the local areas, playing also a photographer and travel guide. He also went home to let us borrow his guide book to other areas that we were headed to later, and kept in touch to make sure the rest of our trip went smoothly. So nice!
