ALBERTO GINÉS, OLYMPIC CLIMBING CHAMPION IN TOKYO 2020
A historic moment for competition climbing.
A historic moment for competition climbing.
The 18-year-old climber from Cáceres reached the top step of the podium when few had picked him as one of the clear favorites to take home one of the coveted and sought-after medals at Tokyo 2020.
Alberto was joined on the podium by Nathaniel Coleman, silver, and Jakob Schubert, bronze. All three athletes were elated during the medal ceremony, held in front of a select audience made up mainly of technical teams from each country competing in the Games' climbing event, specialized press, and a few special guests. This small group was the same one that got to watch a combined final format that won't be repeated at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where speed will be presented as a discipline independent from boulder and lead.
